Flooding in Dehradun

Currently Northern India is in the middle of its monsoon season. It can be a trying time for everyone with heat, humidity and violent downpours.

Last week the area around Raphael, the Ryder-Cheshire centre in Dehradun suffered massive flooding.

Raphael CEO Priyo Lall says Raphael is fine and the intense rain appears to be over.

“One of our outreach teams were on a road trip in a neighbouring district, a three hour drive away. It took them 10 hours to get back the day after the heavy rainfall as all roads were blocked with landslides. I’ve never been so relieved to get their message at 1.30am that they were home safe.”

The floods caused the bridge over the Jakhan river on Dehradun-Rishikesh highway to collapse. It also damaged the road to Dehradun airport.
