Our Story
Leonard Cheshire and Sue Ryder were two extraordinary individuals who founded centres worldwide for the relief of suffering.
Individually they began setting up services in England shortly after World War II. When they married, Leonard and Sue set up the Ryder-Cheshire Foundation. In 1959 they established their first centre - Raphael in Dehradun, northern India.
The couple visited New Zealand to rally support for Raphael. This led to the establishing of the Ryder-Cheshire Foundation New Zealand. Since then passionate volunteers throughout New Zealand have raised funds through dinners, auctions, cake stalls and selling the Ryder-Cheshire story. All these funds are sent to support Raphael and more recently Klibur Domin in Timor-Leste.
The Ryder-Cheshire Foundation also provides services in Hamilton and Palmerston North.
Our Team
Ryder-Cheshire Foundation New Zealand is a team of passionate volunteers with a wide range of skills.
